This chapter of the French Alliance was formed in 1961 and was officially incorporated in January 1962. Its purpose is to encourage the study of French language and culture in Hawaii. It encourages and funds programs to enable students and teachers from Hawaii to study in France or in French-speaking countries.
The Alliance Française of Hawaii is managed by agents that are elected every year at an annual meeting by the board of directors. Directors and officers are not compensated. The chairs of the committees are chosen by the chair and approved by the board of directors.
