Jack Cowan, honorary consul of France in Seattle, awarded the Legion of Honor
In December 2011, Jack A. Cowan, Honorary Consul of France in Seattle, was awarded the French Legion of Honor by Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France.
The medal ceremony was held on March 13, 2012 at the Columbia Tower Club in Seattle. Conferring the medal was Romain Serman, Consul General of France in San Francisco.
Among those attending the ceremony and reception were the Lieutenant-Governor of Washington State Brad Owen and Seattle city Councilman, Tom Rasmussen. Also present were representatives of the French-American associations in the Pacific Northwest. Amonf them were Ubifrance, GIFAS and French Trade Advisors.
Mr. Cowan received this highest distinction of his dedicated service to France. In 1994 he became Executive Director of the French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest. In 1998 he was appointed Honorary Consul of France.
In both these capacities, Mr. Cowan represents France in Washington State, providing a consular presence for French nationals; guidance for French-American business interests and support to the French community in their efforts to promote French culture, tradition and education.
In 2001, Mr. Cowan received the National Order of Merit from the French Government.
